Washington, D.C. –– Nextage was honored to attend the prestigious Holland on the Hill reception this April, where King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima gathered with leaders from Dutch and American businesses, cultural institutions, and the U.S. government. The event highlighted the enduring partnership between the Netherlands and the United States, while fostering new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in innovation-driven sectors like aerospace.
Holland on the Hill

Guests entered the reception greeted by a room lined with striking panels tracing the deep roots of the Dutch-American story, spanning the founding of New Amsterdam–now part of modern-day Manhattan–to the Netherlands’ early and decisive support of the United States during the American Revolution.
As we continue to grow our presence in the Netherlands, attending events like this only reinforces the significance of the shared history we are building upon. For Nextage, Holland on the Hill was both a recognition of how far the partnership between the two countries has come, and a reminder of the opportunities ahead. Our team is dedicated to honoring this partnership and the long-held tradition of international collaboration.
A Royal Message with Modern Relevance

In his address, King Willem-Alexander delivered a message that explored the nature of the bond between the Netherlands and the U.S., and how it is not only historic–but it is essential, evolving, and full of opportunity. He spoke of shared values, resilient economic ties, and the importance of continued collaboration in sectors that will define the future, including aerospace.
His remarks echoed the very spirit of the evening, highlighting the legacy that spans historic milestones such as early financial backing secured by John Adams from Dutch institutions, and the Netherlands becoming one of the first nations to formally recognize the United States as an independent country. Holland on the Hill stood out not just for its distinguished guest list, but for its ability to connect the past and present in a meaningful way. The Netherlands’ early financial, political, and symbolic support of American independence set the stage for a relationship that now drives global innovation and economic growth.
From Holland on the Hill to King's Day: A Celebration of Dutch Identity

The spirit of Holland on the Hill carries added significance as it coincides with the approach of King's Day, the Netherlands’ national celebration held each year on April 27th in honor of King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. Marked by a sea of orange, street markets, music, and nationwide festivities, King’s Day is both a celebration of the Dutch monarchy and a broader expression of national pride and unity.
The holiday traces its origins back to 1885 as “Princess’s Day,” celebrating the birthday of Princess Wilhelmina. It later evolved into
“Queen’s Day” under successive monarchs before becoming King’s Day in 2013 when Willem-Alexander ascended the throne. Today, it stands as a symbol of continuity and cultural identity.
Just as King’s Day brings communities together across the Netherlands, Holland on the Hill served as its international counterpart uniting Dutch and American partners in a shared celebration of history, cooperation, and future opportunity. We’re proud to be a part of this rich history.
